Definition:

A wave in the corona of the Sun which produceshock waves on the Sun's chromosphere (Moreton Waves). EIT Waves areproduced by large solar flare and expand outward at about 1,000 km/s. Itusually appears as a slowly moving diffuse arc of brightening in H-alpha,and may travel for several hundred thousand km.
