Term: Hypsometry
Definition: The measurement of the distribution of glacier area with surface altitude (elevation), or more loosely the result of such measurement. Hypsometric and topographic data are essential for converting measurements of the mass-balance profile to glacier-wide estimates of the mass balance. Hypsography is a synonym.
