Term: Reaction time
Definition: The time required for a change in forcing of mass balance to result in an observable response of the geometry, particularly the length, of the glacier. The reaction time is not a physical property of the glacier. Estimates of the reaction time depend on, among other things, the precision of observation and the extent to which the glacier is out of equilibrium. See response time.
